Write for us
We welcome clear, original pitches that help readers understand a lasting feature or process in rivers, coasts and watersheds without claiming more certainty than the subject allows.
Ideas that fit
Propose an evergreen question with a defined reader takeaway: for example, a comparison of two landforms, an explanation of a recurring water process or a grounded account of how people read a water record. The first five planned pieces are not an invitation to repeat those subjects. We are interested in fresh angles that stand on their own.
A useful pitch
Send a short summary of the central idea, why it matters to general readers, the approach you would take and the kinds of sources needed to support it. Flag uncertainty, regional limits and any relevant commercial interest. Do not send confidential information or present speculation as established fact.
Send a proposal
Proposals are sent through the Contact page. Choose the editorial question option and include your pitch in the message. An unsolicited idea is not a commitment to publish; we will consider its fit, clarity and support.
A current is never just today’s news
Water has a long memory, even when the view seems unchanged. We look for the patterns beneath the moment, without mistaking an explanation for a forecast.
